CASH FLOW BUYER GUIDE
Understand the factoring offer before deciding.
For trucking companies, commercial suppliers, and service businesses, invoice factoring begins with receivables and the provider’s terms. McDowells coordinates introductions and does not lend money or approve financing.
Describe the receivable, not just the cash need.
Start with your industry, approximate monthly invoice volume, typical invoice size, customer type, payment terms, and whether the work has been completed. For freight receivables, describe your operating model and normal documentation process. The provider decides which customers, invoices, and business profiles it can consider.
Use the initial inquiry to describe the situation in broad terms. Do not submit tax returns, bank statements, login credentials, Social Security numbers, or unredacted financial documents through the website. A provider should specify its secure application and document process.
Compare the full commercial terms.
Ask the provider to explain the advance amount, reserve release, all fees, minimum volume, customer notification process, contract length, renewal, and termination requirements. Request a written example based on your invoice profile and expected payment timing. A fee that looks small in isolation may not describe the total cost of the arrangement.
Clarify recourse and nonrecourse definitions in the actual agreement, including exclusions and the circumstances in which an invoice can be charged back. Do not assume that a nonrecourse label eliminates every nonpayment risk. Obtain professional advice where appropriate before signing an agreement.
Separate an introduction from an approval.
McDowells can help organize the initial inquiry and coordinate an introduction to a relevant provider. The provider determines eligibility, underwriting, available terms, timing, and approval. No funding amount, approval, or time to funding is guaranteed. Broader business financing requests are considered as provider referral inquiries rather than a promise of a particular product.
Make the next step specific.
Prepare questions about invoice factoring fees, reserves, recourse, customer eligibility, and contract terms. McDowells coordinates funding provider introductions.
