Start with fleet fit and acceptance.

Describe your vehicle types, fuel types, operating states, approximate monthly gallons or spend, and number of drivers. Identify the stations and truck stops your fleet actually uses. Ask the provider to confirm acceptance for the specific program and operating territory. Features advertised for one WEX product should not be assumed to apply to another.

The McDowells fuel page keeps Proprietary Card Type 1 and CrossRoads applications separate. Each application has its own McDowells attribution. Review the provider’s product description, eligibility, fees, payment requirements, and terms before applying. WEX determines program eligibility and credit approval.

Ask about controls and reporting you will use.

Prepare your intended driver or vehicle assignment policy and the purchasing restrictions you need. Ask which transaction controls, spending limits, reporting exports, exception alerts, and administrative permissions are available in the proposed program. Confirm the configuration and any related cost with WEX. This guide does not promise every feature for every product.

Evaluate diesel savings using net cost.

For a meaningful comparison, use your actual route and purchase mix. Ask the provider to explain any offered pricing or discount method, qualifying purchases, locations, exclusions, and fees. Compare the net result after program costs rather than a headline discount. McDowells does not promise a discount, a fixed cents per gallon saving, or guaranteed savings.
